What is the European Ecolabel?
Established in 1992, the EU Ecolabel, symbolised by the 'flower', is a unique certification system designed to help European consumers identify greener and more environmentally friendly products and services.
The EU Ecolabel is administered by the European Union Ecolabelling Board (EUEB) and receives support from the European Commission, all Member States of the European Union and the European Economic Area (EEA).
Our group is the leading French distributor of Ecolabel paint and varnish formulas.
Why is a European eco-label necessary?
Today we are faced with all sorts of ecological problems, from global warming, destruction of the ozone layer and pollution of waterways, to the disappearance of biodiversity and mountains of waste.
The Flower logo is recognised throughout Europe and covers a wide range of product groups, making it easier to recognise quality products that have a lighter toll on the environment.
A product must meet all the criteria to be eligible for the EU Ecolabel. These ecological criteria will take into account all aspects of a product's life, from its production and use to its subsequent disposal (the so-called "cradle to grave" approach).
In France, the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion has entrusted the support of French policy on the European Ecolabel to ADEME and its issuance to certification bodies accredited by COFRAC, in application of Decree No. 2022-410 of March 23, 2022 relating to the methods of certification and control of the European Ecolabel.
AFNOR Certification, the leader in certification and assessment in France, has been the operator of the European Ecolabel in France since its creation in 1992, and the first accredited certification body in the certification of industrial products and services (Cofrac accreditation no. 5-0030, scope available on www.cofrac.fr ) for the issuance of the European Ecolabel, Detergents and Cosmetics categories.
